HDC Kindness Challenge 2021!

Hi everyone! Throughout the month of February we invite your child or children to participate in our HDC kindness challenge! We ask that you print out a copy of the calendar (or ask us for a copy) and check off which random acts of kindness your child completes. You do not have to do the exact act on the exact day but we invite you all to give it a try!

 At the end of the month we invite your child to bring in their completed calendar to the office for a prize!

Kindness and social emotional learning is an essential part of our school curriculum. 

 By taking the time to focus on the children's social emotional health it can help foster a child's self confidence and build their self esteem. When children are happy and feel safe with their peers there is less disruptive behavior and more time for actual learning!

A kind and positive school culture is a win win for students, families and teachers alike!

HDC is back!

HDC is up and running! 

Hi everyone, it has been lots of work but we are officially completing our second week back! The teachers and staff have been working tirelessly caring for, educating and following strict cleaning protocols throughout the day! 

We are all so happy to be back doing what we love and caring for children! 

Aside from our cleaning person at night who does a thorough cleaning of the entire school the teachers are making sure to...

• Clean & sanitize door knobs every 3 hours and as needed
• Clean & sanitize door frames every 4 hours and as needed
• Clean & sanitize radiators at opening and closing and as needed
• Clean & sanitize high touch toys & buckets after every use
• Clean & sanitize tables after every use and as needed
• Sanitize playground equipment after every use and as needed
• Clean & sanitize any mouthed toys as needed
• Clean & sanitize toilets and sinks after every use
• Clean & sanitize the tablet daily and as needed
• Clean & sanitize phones at opening and closing and as needed
• Clean & sanitize rest time mats after every use and as needed

After being mandated by the state to shut down we decided to do a drive by to say a socially distant hello to our students to let them know we were thinking about them!

World Read Aloud Day!

Happy World Read Aloud Day!!!

 

We had lots of parents and grandparents come in and volunteer their time today! Missy and I also snuck out of the office to read a few books too!

This meant so much to all the children at HDC.

 

The importance of reading to children can not be overstated! Reading aloud in particular helps children to develop the reading readiness skills that they will need to read a book on their own.

 

Reading aloud to children...

 

*Teaches how to hold and turn the pages of a book

*Develops phonemic awareness

*Develops print awareness

*Exposes them to more complex language and to a more sophisticated vocabulary

*Helps to build background knowledge so children can better understand what they see and hear

*Helps children to listen, concentrate and have a longer attention span

*Helps children adjust to the structure and routine of instruction during a typical school day

*Provides experiences with sequencing, cause and effect, and comparing and contrasting which are naturally part of stories and books

*Helps to develop critical thinking skills as they listen and notice how characters solve problems

 

and that's just to name a few!

 

 We have a box of free books at the entrance of the school today so please feel free to take a book home and keep the reading alive!

Preschool Resource Fair

Last Saturday, Feb. 1st was the

Preschool Resource Fair hosted by Haverhill's Early Learning Leadership Team.  

 

Missy and I were there to represent

Haverhill Daycare Center!

 

 

It was such a great turn out!

Over 200 parents and their children attended!

 

 

 

 

 

Curious Creatures was there with lots of cute little animals! There were hoops, balls, parachute play and a fun game of duck, duck, goose for the little ones to let out some energy. There was even a cute Valentines craft for the children to make. Healthy snacks and drinks were available for all the children and the library was giving away free books!

 

 

It was a great time for all who attended!

We are so happy and appreciative to be able to care for, teach and watch your children grow.

Each day of the week we did a little something to celebrate!

On Monday, the children each got a bright yellow scarf to sport!

On Tuesday, each child drew a picture and discussed what they love about HDC.

 

 

On Wednesday, each child got a sticker!

 

 

On Thursday, each child and teacher took a picture with the banners and pennants!

 

 

On Friday, the children all helped to color and contribute to the celebration banner!
