Whiz Kids

Metric Mark from Whiz Kids came to HDC to do some fun STEM experiments with our school aged children!

 

 

 

 

One of the first experiments was trying to decide how to get a hard boiled egg into a science flask without breaking it. He asked the students for help on how to accomplish this task. They offered that he peel the egg first. He did and yet it still would not go in. So with the power of science he inserted 3 candles into the egg, lit them and put them into the bottle...the egg then began to move and slid into the bottle and the flames of the candles went out! How did it happen, magic?...nope just science! When the candle side of the egg went into the bottle it caused the air inside to heat up and expand rapidly. That air pushed the egg aside and escaped from the bottle. When the fire consumed all the oxygen inside the bottle the flame went out and the remaining air inside the bottle cooled. So cool! 

 

 

He did a whole bunch of other experiments as well and gave the children lots of time to try out some of the experiments too!

 

At the end they even did a rocket launch!
The old mentos and coca cola trick! It was huge!!!
