Festival of Trees

This year Haverhill Daycare Center
is donating a tree to the
Methuen Festival of Trees!

The name of our tree is...

"Artist in the Making"

The children and teachers have been working hard to create a variety of art inspired ornaments! Our school community has really come together to make our tree the best it can be! Many families have donated art supplies and art store gift cards to give it some monetary value as well! Thank you so much to the Malynn and Petalidas families for the Michaels gift cards. Thank you to the Dow family for your donation of art supplies!

Our school age kids helped out too! They made the paper chain and the pine cone ornaments.

Thank you so much to Adaline's Grandmother who came in to make ornaments with the children!

They made beautiful beaded wreaths, icicles and cardboard wrapped trees.

Aimee and Celimar's class made the gorgeous glass painted and crayon specked ornaments and also painted the paint brushes and the tree skirt.

Joan and Mimi's class made the handprints, popsicle stick people and snowflakes.

Marcie and Cheri's classes made the cute glass snowmen and the wooden trees.

Sonia and Destiny's class made the beaded candy canes and also helped with the paper chain.

Missy, Sonia, Chloe and myself (Mel) heading to Methuen to set up our tree! Lots of decorations! haha

 Bringing in the boxes!!!

Putting the tree together and making sure the paint brush topper stays on straight!

Lights, garland and ornament time!!!

Thank you to our students, teachers and everyone else who helped!

Make sure to check out our tree and the other amazing trees at The Festival of Trees!

The Festival Starts on November 22nd and goes until December 7th.

Sunflower Exploration

Sunflower Exploration!

Thank you so much to Chris' Farm Stand who donated this lovely sunflower to our school.

The children have been having lots of fun learning some fun facts about the happy looking sunflower such as...

**The French word for sunflower is tournesol, which translates literally to "turned sun," referring to the plant's ability to turn itself to face the sun.

**Not all sunflower petals are yellow. There are more than 60 varieties of sunflowers that live around the world—some of these varieties have striped petals. Some sunflowers also have different interior shades.
**There are two kinds of sunflower seeds. Sunflower oil which is used in cooking and in margarines is made from black seeds and snack food is made from the striped seeds. The seeds can also be used as bird feed.
**As of 2012, the Guinness World Record for the tallest sunflower is 8.23 m (27 ft) for a sunflower grown in Germany
**Sunflowers attract bees, making them useful in areas where people are beekeeping and looking to attract more bees.
**Kansas is often known as the Sunflower state and the flower is in fact Kansas's state flower. The sunflower is also the national flower of Ukraine.
Fun facts found on sciencekids.

The children have been using their fine motor muscles to use tweezers to take the seeds out of the flower. We are planning on planting the seeds in our garden out front to see if we can grow our own sunflowers and have the children learn about the life cycle of the flower first hand!

So much Fall fun happening here at Haverhill Day Care!

Hands on learning is minds on learning!
