Last Day of School

Our last day of the school year was June 7th!

We wanted to make the last day extra fun and extra special for all of our students.

We had the very entertaining musician David Polansky put on a concert for the children!

He was fabulous and the children (and teachers) loved singing along with him! On a side note David performed at my elementary school when I was a kid! I now play and sing his songs with my little one! His Animals A to Z cd is my favorite and we now have a copy of all his cds for the teachers to play in their classrooms! Thanks David!

Please check out David's website here http://davidpolansky.com/musician.htm

We hosted a small graduation / moving up ceremony for all the children moving up to Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten at HDC!

We then had the ice cream truck come to HDC!!!
The children were so cute walking / skipping to the ice cream truck!

SpongeBob and snow cones seemed to be the favorite of the day!!!

We hope everyone had a great last day of school! We wish the best of luck to all of our little ones moving up to the public school and we look forward to more time with the younger ones!

On to the Summer program!!!

Seacoast Science Center

Seacoast Science Center came to HDC today with their ocean commotion on the go program!

The host Sarah, introduced herself to the children and started the program with a song.

(To the tune of: You are my Sunshine)

She then explained the science centers that the children would get to try out today.

The first center was an ocean clean up sensory bin! The children were lead in a discussion about why it is so important to clean up after themselves when they go to the beach. They used various tools to pick up all the trash in the bin.

The second station was a sea creature sort puzzle. The children talked with the teachers about the various legs and parts of the creatures on the board.

The third station was a water bead sensory bucket complete with ocean animals.

The fourth station was a magnetic fishing game.

The fifth station was a sea star ball toss color game.

The last and most exciting station was the live animal station! There was a sea star, a crab, a sea urchin and mussels. Each child had a chance to touch and observe the animals.

The program ended with a goodbye song.

(Also to the tune of: You are my Sunshine)

Such a fun and interactive science lesson!

They host all sorts of great events for children at their site in Odiorne Point State Park.
